No, I’m not going to the world cup. (by Carla Dauden)

To those who aren’t aware, Brazil is going through several protests. Our people are sick of its corrupted government who steals from the people to invest on the World Cup when they should be investing on public education, health and infrastructure. Help us changing our corrupted country: do NOT come to World Cup.

I don’t normally reblog stuff like this, but as a soccer (football) fan, FIFA as an organization has long disgusted me, and I can only imagine how angry many Brazilians must be over this.

With all these problems, you wonder why they re even having the world cup to begin with it and not trying to fix their problems instead.

PLEASE READ. WILL NOT HURT TO AND FORWARD. Kids are putting Drano, tin foil, and a little water in plastic drink bottles and capping it up - leaving it on lawns, in mail boxes, in gardens, on driveways etc. just waiting for you to pick it up intending to put it in the rubbish, but you’ll never make it!!!
If the bottle is picked up, and the bottle is shaken even just a little - in about 30 seconds or less it builds up enough gas which then explodes with enough force to remove some your extremities. The liquid that comes out is boiling hot as well. Don’t pick up any plastic bottles that may be lying in your yards or in the gutter, etc. Pay attention to this. A plastic bottle with a cap. A little Drano. A little water. A small piece of foil. Disturb it by moving it; and BOOM!! No fingers left and other serious effects to your face, eyes, etc. Please ensure that everyone that may not have email access are also informed of this.
Snopes confirms.

I’ve dealt with these before. If you find one:
Do not touch it
Do not touch it
Clear the area around it. It will explode on its own in time.
Once it explodes, do not make contact with the liquid inside. If needed, flush it away with large amounts of water.
Do not try to detonate it. You’ll probably be disfigured.
I’ve seen what these can do. The acidic liquid inside can strip the paint off a car.

this is fucking disgusting

This is everything wrong with the fandom right now. Someone has to say it.

Well it’d be hard to put EVERYTHING that’s wrong with the fandom in one post, but yeah, fuck you hootaloo.

idgi, why is hoot wrong?

What’s wrong with telling an artist she has no right to ask for donations to go to a con? ¬_¬

who the fuck said she didn’t have any ‘right’ to ask for donations, but i mean i didn’t get to two cons by asking for money over the internet

Well that’s fine, but don’t tell ohers they can’t ask for money if they need it.

OK, I can understand that. But it looks to me like this is just asking for money for a convention, not exactly a life necessity. But, whatever, to each their own I guess. hoot rules IMO

As someone who relies on commissions to pay rent, phone bills, food, and school tuition, asking for donations doesn’t seem wrong to me at all. It’s very hard to save up in time for a con if 80 to 90 percent of your funds go directly to what I mentioned above. If people wish to donate, I don’t see that as wrong.

Think the point being is that people really shouldn’t flat out go on donation drives to pay for frivolous expenses such as cons, be them airfare, hotelfare, etc. Donation drives are good and all if they’re for essential living/working necessities, but not for like OH LEL I WANNA GO TO A CON BUT I AIN’T GOT DA $, PAY IT FOR ME PLS? xDD—-dd-
Like, if you’re able bodied, you should be willing to nut up and work to earn the money to pay for aforementioned unimportant expenses ya know, instead of coming off as a leech or something, again, by going on donation drives to pay for recreational things such as cons.
IDK if that’s what BCS did, but it sure sounds like it from Hoot’s post. My point stands tho’
Shit, I’m going to ENW and EVO on my own, earned surplus!
EDIT: Oh ok, that is EXACTLY what BCS was doing. FOR SHAME BCS, I thought u was a trunigga ; ;;;;; damn

Okay the fact that people are literally cursing me for this is absolutely appalling, and how some of y’all don’t see why this is wrong is absolutely abhorrent to me.
However, the person before me pretty much took the words right out of my mouth. It is absolutely ridiculous to ask for donations over something like a CONVENTION. Something so meaningless. You do not NEED to go to a convention. That is not money you NEED. You are literally asking people for money, essentially taking advantage of their generosity, because you WANT to go to a place you don’t NEED to go.
Would you give a person money if they were asking for alcohol? No. Food? Hell yea. Food is a necessity, alcohol isn’t. Cons aren’t. What bugs me is that they are an ARTIST of all things. They do commissions? Budget a bit. Make a bit of extra cash and plan the trip yourself. That’s how I do it. That’s how plenty of others do it.
The fact that people seriously don’t see how NONSENSICAL it is to ask for donations over something so meaningless and pointless literally escapes me.It’s like owning a fucking pet. If you can’t AFFORD it, don’t get one.If you can’t AFFORD going to a con for LEISURE, just don’t go. Plan accordingly to go next year if you don’t have the funds to do so this year.
And Kure, if you can only make enough money to pay for rent and stuff, then frankly asking for donations to go to a CON is stupid. If you’re living paycheck to paycheck apparently, your concern shouldn’t be going to cons.
Making people bend backwards for you - making them donate THEIR money just so you can go to a convention, is utterly ridiculous.
At the very least, if you’re going to make a donation drive for something so bloody minute, at LEAST offer some compensation, as most indiegogo things do. They offer items and goodies for their backers. But this is literally asking people to throw money at you for something that you do not need.

^

Had a look at the indiegogo campaign. It essentially looks like the artist is asking for money so they can go on a little holiday, which as others have said is ridiculous.

Since her death in 1979, the woman who discovered what the universe is made of has not so much as received a memorial plaque. Her newspaper obituaries do not mention her greatest discovery. […] Every high school student knows that Isaac Newton discovered gravity, that Charles Darwin discovered evolution, and that Albert Einstein discovered the relativity of time. But when it comes to the composition of our universe, the textbooks simply say that the most abundant atom in the universe is hydrogen. And no one ever wonders how we know.

VFX Company Rhythm & Hues Protested Last Night’s Oscar Ceremony

Ang Lee’s Life of Pi won Best Director, Best Cinematography, and Best Visual Effects (VFX) during last night’s Oscars ceremony, but that last prize leaves a bitter taste in the mouths of many who worked on the film. You might assume those who work on a film that wins an Oscar would be excited about it taking home the gold, but that’s not the case for over 400 current and ex-employees of visual effects company Rhythm & Hues, which filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy and fired over 250 employees last week. Deadline reports that many of those workers gathered and staged a large protest near the 85th Academy Awards ceremony last night.

I’m amazed this isn’t getting more attention on tumblr, considering how many people here enjoy the work these people do. All those gifs, all the screencaps, they don’t just magically happen.
